Beebe Healthcare’s Rehoboth campus renamed for Abessinio family after $6M gift
By LEWES — On Aug. 5, in recognition of the second-largest philanthropic gift ever received by Beebe Healthcare, the Rehoboth Health Campus was renamed the Abessinio Health Campus.
The ceremony honored Rocco and Mary Abessinio and their family, who donated a transformational gift of $6 million in February 2024.
The Abessinio Health Campus features the Specialty Surgical Hospital, Tunnell Cancer Center, Medical Arts Building, Center for Breast Health, Beebe Walk-In Care Rehoboth, and Beebe Outpatient Surgery Center.
Mr. Abessinio, a Wilmington native, started his own companies, Applied Card Systems Inc. and Applied Bank, which became a top issuer of credit cards in the nation, according to a press release. The Abessinios reside in Boca Raton, Florida, but spend their summers in Rehoboth Beach with their four children, their spouses, and 12 grandchildren.
