DOVER — The Delaware Division of Public Health announced 19 new cases of COVID-19 in Monday’s update — the fewest daily number of new cases since March 25, 2020, which was at the start of the pandemic when testing was less prevalent.

Kent County recorded zero new cases of the virus. It is the first time since March 30, 2020, also in the pandemic’s early stages, a county had zero cases in a single day.

Seventeen of the 19 cases were from New Castle County while the other two were from Sussex County. New Castle County has a seven-day rolling average of 17.9 new positive cases a day, which is its lowest total since March of 2020.

The 19 cases bring Delaware’s all-time total to 109,379. No new COVID-19-related deaths were reported as that number remained at 1,679.

Delaware’s seven-day rolling average for percentage of positive tests continues to decline as well. The statistic dropped to 1.4% in the DPH’s most recent report which is the fourth-lowest mark since the DPH began keeping track of the data and the lowest since March 18, 2020.

For reference, the World Health Organization recommends a seven-day rolling average of 5% or fewer. The mark of 1.4% is as of Friday at 6 p.m. due to a two-day lag to account for the time delay between the date of the test and the date the DPH receives the test result.

The DPH reported 36 hospitalizations, as of Sunday at 6 p.m. Of those hospitalized, two cases are considered critical.

An additional 495 individuals tested negative for COVID-19, increasing that total to 620,800.

There have been 960,871 doses of the COVID-19 vaccines administered in Delaware, according to the DPH’s vaccine tracker using data as of Sunday at 11:59 p.m.

Per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 68.1% of Delaware adults have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. This number includes Delawareans who have been vaccinated in other states and vaccinations at such locations as the Department of Veterans Affairs and Dover Air Force Base, which do not report their numbers to the DPH
