Goose Creek Pit & Pub to open in former Hideaway Grill in Rumbley

Approved for on/off-sale alcohol license by Somerset County Board of License Commissioners

PRINCESS ANNE — Barely a month after settlement the new owner of the former Hideaway Grill in Rumbley has a liquor license in hand and was planning a soft opening for Friday of Memorial Day weekend.

The waterfront restaurant and Goose Creek Marina were purchased in April by Rumbley Marina LLC and the eatery will become the fourth Pit & Pub on the Lower Shore. In addition to its featured smoked and barbeque style food it will continue the beach/bay vibe.

Stephen Masten Jr. of Salisbury and Ryan Kulynycz, resident agent from Princess Anne, requested the seven-day on/off sale Class D beer, wine and liquor license and without objection during a public hearing May 26 it is was granted by the Somerset County Board of License Commissioners.

This location at 25763 Rumbley Road will be a separate corporation known as Dockside Pit & Pub Inc. and operate as Goose Creek Pit & Pub — similar to the Pit & Pub in Salisbury and two in Ocean City.

What was once a marina store serving boaters and a campground had an off-sale license until the previous owners in 2007 transitioned to serving hot and cold food. It wasn’t legal, however, for those eating on the premises to consume alcohol at their table so the license was upgraded to on-sale so drinks could be served at what was called the Hideaway Grill.

In April, SVN|Miller Commercial Real Estate agents Andy Ball and Allison Conick announced the sale of the property, with Austin Cox of Long & Foster representing the seller. Mr. Masten worked quickly to refresh the restaurant for its opening, and is making repairs to the marina as well.

License Commissioners Van Muir and Frank Lusk both reminded the applicants of not selling alcohol to anyone under 21, and Chair Robert Murphey said unless Mr. Masten has his primary residence in Somerset County for two years a resident agent like Mr. Kulynycz will continue to be necessary to continue holding the license.

Mr. Murphey — former owner of the Hotel Inn restaurant and bar in Princess Anne — knows what running this kind of businesses takes, and he said to Mr. Masten, “You might think you’re living there,” but property ownership is not enough, it requires residency.

Mr. Masten plans to be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. up to 11 p.m. with live entertainment under consideration. Since the purchase he has been hiring staff and residents in the neighborhood have stopped by to wish him well.

The restaurant posts updates on Facebook at Goose Creek Pit & Pub or email dockside.pitnpub@gmail.com or call 410-651-1110.
