PRINCESS ANNE — One of the industrial park’s newest property owners was granted unanimous approval from the Princess Anne Commissioners to pursue plans to manufacture and assemble machine components.

Scott Wade, owner Process Integration Inc., said he now operates from an 8,000 sq. ft. building in West Ocean City but last fall purchased three parcels here in the industrial park so a 20,000 sq. ft. building could be built with room to add on another 18,000 sq. ft. as business grows.

He works primarily with the poultry and meat industry, providing weighing, labeling, inventory, material handling and custom programing equipment. Now he is interested in robotics and making machines that can pick-up and stack boxes and cases for placement on pallets. With this the number of employees will grow from 11 to as many as 27.

A preliminary site plan was approved April 28 by the Planning and Zoning Commission, but the proposed use of the property "didn’t fit cleanly" the manufacturing covenants for the industrial park, said Town Manager Clayton Anderson, so Town Commissioner action was necessary.

It was approved by resolution at the June 7 meeting.

Tracey Gordy, regional director of the Lower Eastern Shore office of the Maryland Department of Planning, has been working with Mr. Wade and as an agent for the town on this project — especially as the town currently lacks a code enforcement director.

She said the mandatory number of parking spaces was waived as the business will have no retail sales, but final site plan approval is pending and Mr. Wade still requires some other permits. However, with the favorable vote by the commissioners on the zoning certification, he can start site preparation, she said.

Mr. Wade praised Ms. Gordy for her support in shepherding this project through the multiple layers of town, county and state regulations. He said the town’s approval was "a great hurdle."
