LONG NECK — The Nassau-DE local campaign organization of the national Marine Toys for Tots Foundation gathered at Ocean Grill Long Neck this week to pay tribute to departing coordinator Bob Davis.
Mr. Davis oversaw the 2019 and the COVID-19-plagued 2020 Toys for Tots campaigns in Sussex County.
He was honored for his leadership in organizing south Delaware’s volunteer effort to carry out the Marine Corps program of ensuring that needy kids are not overlooked at Christmas.
Mr. Davis received a certificate of appreciation and one of the chapter's signature Red Train Awards. The ceremony was attended by local Toys for Tots volunteers, many of whom are also members of the Marine Corps League's Diamond State Detachment, a major supporter of the Nassau-DE LCO group.
The Nassau-DE LCO Toys for Tots chapter has high expectations, as in 2020 under Mr. Davis’ direction, they provided toys to more than 3,700 kids in southern Delaware.
Making Toys for Tots successful is a year-round undertaking. Even now, plans are being made for the 2021 Christmas season. Newly appointed coordinator Jim DeMartino is hitting the ground running to ensure the local chapter keeps its efforts growing in its 22nd year of partnering with the Marine Corps Reserve in Sussex County.
