DAGSBORO — The soon-to-be remodeled Hall of Fame niche at Indian River High School has two new members.

Richard “Rick” Duncan and Robert “Robbie” Murray Jr. are the 2024 inductees. The choices were announced April 13 during the alumni association’s Beef & Brew fundraiser.

The two will be recognized May 15 during the Senior Awards Assembly, where they will receive their plaques and address the graduating class.

Mr. Duncan is a 1975 alumnus. His career has been in the field of water, recently retiring after 34 years from the Delaware Rural Water Association, a nonprofit corporation that provides technical assistance and specialized training.

He also organized Delaware’s Drinking Water Advisory Council and taught a basic water operations class for 12 years at Delaware Technical Community College.

A life member of the Selbyville Volunteer Fire Co., Mr. Duncan is a former chief. He also has served on Selbyville Town Council for 23 years and, since March of last year, has been the town’s mayor.

Mr. Murray is a 1990 graduate of Indian River High and has spent several decades in public safety. He has been a member of the Frankford Volunteer Fire Co. for 35 years, including the last 10 as president.

He also has worked with Sussex County’s paramedic program for 30 years, in several capacities. In addition, Mr. Murray was recently named the county’s first director of public safety.

He is active in his community, as well, as president of Envision Frankford, an initiative committed to bolstering town events.

“Both of these gentlemen were incredible,” said the alumni association’s president, 1984 graduate Bennett Murray. “I know, as a team, we were very excited.”

Meanwhile, plans are in the works to restructure the Hall of Fame area, with principal Mike Williams developing the design with Mark Steele.

Lori Bunting Hudson is tracking down the names of all inductees, to ensure they receive their due recognition.

“We found out there are pictures missing of people that were inducted that are not on the board,” Bennett added. “We want to make sure everyone gets the accolades they deserve.”
