Citizens for Delaware Schools publishes 2024 School Board Voter Guide

Posted

WILMINGTON — Citizens for Delaware Schools has published a non-partisan online School Board Voter Guide featuring the positions of candidates who responded to its survey.

People can view the guide on the Citizens for Delaware Schools website.

School Board elections will be held on May 14 in eight school districts: Appoquinimink, Christina, Colonial, Red Clay, Delmar, Indian River District 4, Lake Forest, and Woodbridge. “Transparency is vital for public office holders, and school boards are no exception,” said Nancy Mercante, president of Citizens for Delaware Schools.

“With students struggling academically throughout our state, communities have a right to know how candidates will improve academic results, increase parent involvement, protect children at school, and promote classroom transparency.”

Citizens for Delaware Schools asked candidates – opposed and unopposed – to answer questions about steps they will take to overcome the barriers to achieving academic excellence.

“I was disappointed that more candidates did not take part,” said Ms. Mercante. “The nine candidates who did displayed a willingness to engage with their community and share their vision.”

Ms. Mercante said, “Our goal is to make it easier for voters to get informed and choose candidates aligned with their values and aspirations for fixing education.”

The guide also contains information about voting by absentee ballot, polling locations and more. To view the Voters Guide, visit citizensfordelawareschools.org.

Citizens for Delaware Schools does not endorse or oppose any School Board candidates.
