Georgetown nonprofits invited to apply for GREAT funds

Posted

GEORGETOWN — Applications are available for funding via the 2024 Georgetown Recreation, Education, Arts Trust, which supports organizations that provide such programs for town residents.

The fund is financed by surcharges on building permits.

Those eligible for monies offer programs, materials or activities related to recreation, education and the arts. Funding will not be awarded for capital improvements, salaries or fundraising.

Interested nonprofits can obtain the application and general guidelines from georgetowndel.com (click “Important Notices” under “News & Notices”).

The deadline is April 30 at 4:30 p.m. For information, call 302-856-7391.

In 2023, eight groups received GREAT fund allocations. Topping the list was Prospect African Methodist Episcopal Church, which was granted $38,149 for structural needs and rehabilitation of its South Railroad Avenue facility.

Next was the Georgetown Public Library, at $30,000.

The other recipients last year were Community Inspired Actions ($15,000), Everlasting Hope Ministries ($8,000), Georgetown Arts & Flowers ($3,500), the Georgetown Elementary School Robotics Club ($4,000), La Esperanza ($7,500) and Pathways to Success ($5,000).

Awards are formulated and recommended by a five-member committee, which is scheduled to be formed by the mayor and Town Council on Monday.

A March 25 attempt to create the fund’s committee was tabled by Mayor Bill West, who directed council members “to contact people in your ward you would like to be on the committee.”
