Harrington’s May 7 election canceled

With no contested races, two council members keep seats

Posted

HARRINGTON — The annual municipal election scheduled May 7 has been canceled, due to a lack of contested races.

The two City Council members whose seats were up for vote — District 2’s Jack Stewart and District 4’s Darrin Simpson — will retain their seats.
They will continue to serve with Robert Farmer, Micah Parker, Ervin E. White and Michael Kimmey, as well as Mayor Duane E. Bivans.

According to city manager Norman Barlow, council members have the same goals for the growth of Harrington and hope for continued positive change.

“The mayor wants to keep Harrington moving forward with all the projects going on,” he said. “With the library being built and everything and the growth of Harrington, the team all has the same focus and (is) geared towards moving Harrington forward.”

The candidates will take the oath of office June 3.
