Suspect arrested in March school threats in Milford

MILFORD — After a month of searching, police Monday announced the arrest of Thomas Caffrey in connection with threats to the Milford School District in March.

The suspect was discovered by Milford police at his residence in Lincoln, during a routine check for his 2012 gray Nissan Titan, authorities said.

He was taken into custody without further incident.

According to police, on March 7, Mr. Caffrey entered the Milford School District office and dropped off a letter that contained a district access key card and a building key from a former district employee.

The letter he left read, “She is done, if my husband gets upset there are not enough police or National Guard to stop him. You have been warned,” police said.

Following the visit, district officials contacted the police, and its six schools were put in low-level lockdowns. Children were dismissed safely; however, school was canceled the next day.

On March 11, the Milford Police Department and the Milford School District released a joint statement to inform residents what had allegedly occurred.

Mr. Caffrey was charged Monday with four misdemeanor counts of harassment. He was presented at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and given a $4,000 secured bail and a no-contact order for the four unnamed victims. He is also prohibited from visiting Milford School District properties.

Mr. Caffrey posted bail and was ordered to appear in the Sussex County Court of Common Pleas at a later date, police said.
