PRINCESS ANNE — “Ready, set, Library!” National Library Week is April 8-13 and Somerset County libraries encourage patrons and new readers to visit the libraries in Princess Anne, Crisfield and Ewell to “Explore, Learn, Dream and Become.”

Monday, April 8 is Right to Read Day, a National Day of Action in support of the right to read. Also on that day the State of America’s Libraries Report is released, including the Top Ten Most Challenged Books of 2023.

Tuesday, April 9 is National Library Workers’ Day, a day for everyone to recognize the valuable contributions made by library workers.

Wednesday, April 10 is National Library Outreach Day, a day to honor the dedicated professionals who meet their patrons where they are in schools, community centers and community events.

Thursday, April 11 is Take Action for Libraries Day, a day to rally advocates to urge members of Congress to protect the freedom to read.

As Somerset County Board of Library Trustees President Ann Smith noted in an email, “In our online world, libraries give us a green light to something else — a place to connect with others, learn new skills, and focus on important matters. Your Somerset County Libraries in Crisfield, Princess Anne and Ewell, provide an inclusive and supportive community where everyone belongs.

“Stop in during National Library Week and show them your appreciation.”
