CAMBRIDGE – The spaces at DCA spring to life for May as the Annual Young People’s Show returns, featuring the exuberant art of school age youth in Dorchester County. The show will be judged, with awards presented for first, second and third place in elementary, middle and high school entries.

Additionally, one Best in Show, Top Digital Work, Top Fine Art and Top Interpretation will be selected from the full exhibit. The show opens May 3 and runs through May 25.
On May 5, the George B. Todd Performance Hall resonates with the sights and sounds of the Cinco de Mayo event from 5-8 p.m. Cinco de Mayo is a yearly event to celebrate Mexico's victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.

Guests will enjoy delicious food and desserts, a cash bar, dancing and performances by the Ballet Folklorico La Esperanza. Admission is $20 per person, with children under 16 admitted free.

Second Saturday, May 14, 5-7 p.m., features the Young People’s Show Awards Ceremony with refreshments and live music by the Cambridge Ukulele Group. Admission is free and all are welcome.

There will also be a “game signing” in the Wilson Gallery with Danny Waxter and his custom-designed board game “Let’s Go Crabbing” for ages 4 and older. This original design is featured in the StudioWorks Gift Shop at DCA, and a limited number will be signed during the event.

Following the reception, a concert kicks off in the George B. Todd Performance Hall at 7 p.m. with Sam O’Hare and Danny Garrett. This concert starts the season for “Jazz at the Mural,” a series sponsored by the Harriet Tubman Museum and Education Center and presented in partnership with DCA.

Sam O’Hare and Danny Garrett are the 2023 first place winners in the DC Blues Society Solo/Duo category. The duo has been playing blues together since their teens, offering up a melodic approach to singing and songwriting that comes from country and folk influences. Admission is $20. Tickets are available at harriettubmanmuseumcenter.org.
