Sussex Tech Adult Education hosts Rotation Project for Sussex high school students

Posted

GEORGETOWN — Sussex Tech Adult Education hosted a Rotation Project, funded by the Delaware Department of Labor, for 20 high school students from Cape Henlopen, Delmar, Laurel and Woodbridge School Districts.

The Rotation Project is based on two rotations: (1) plumbing, HVAC, and electrical, and (2) welding, carpentry, and heavy equipment operation.

Students have an opportunity to rotate through each skilled trade sector and experience the skills, knowledge, and work effort needed to become skilled trades professionals in their chosen trade.

This multifaceted approach includes, exploring the trades, training in employability skills, pre-apprenticeship, paid work experience, and earning industry-recognized credentials. Participants receive a trades related tool kit.

Upon completion, students will be equipped with essential career readiness skills for the successful attainment of long-term, life-sustaining employment in skilled trades.

Sussex Tech Adult Education Industrial Training Coordinator is currently working to find paid internships for the participants, and they will begin the Sussex Tech Adult Education Apprenticeship Program following high school graduation.

For more information about the Sussex Tech Adult Ed Apprenticeship program, visit sussexvt.org or call Mike Hague, industrial training coordinator, at 302-856-9035.
