Somerset County Public Schools has announced that Zachary D. Bartemy, Project Lead the Way Engineering Instructor at Somerset County Technical High School, is the District’s 2024-2025 Teacher of the Year.

Mr. Bartemy was selected as the Secondary Teacher of the Year finalist, and runner up, Hannah Quillen, PreK-4 Teacher at Princess Anne Elementary School, was named 2024-2025 Elementary Teacher of the Year. Winners were announced at the Somerset Teacher of the Year banquet held last Friday night at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s Henson Center Ballroom.

"Zach" Bartemy is a National Board Certified Engineering Teacher. He received a Master’s in Career and Technology Education from University of Maryland Eastern Shore (2022) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from James Madison University (2017).

He established the engineering and robotics program at SCPS, working on projects with UMES, Purdue University, and NASA. Five of his students have completed Job Shadows at NASA in the past two years. Using technology, he has led students into the community to design and test fishing lures, launch and analyze designed rockets, compete in robotics and drone events, and earn certification in Computer-Aided Design (CAD).

Mr. Bartemy will go on to compete as Somerset County’s candidate for 2025 Maryland Teacher of the Year in the fall.

See the April 10 edition Crisfield-Somerset County Times for more on the story and the special section inside dedicated to all of the county's Teacher of the Year nominees.
