With roadwork done, Milford's North Walnut Street reopens to traffic

Posted

MILFORD — After almost two months of construction over the bridge of the Mispillion River, North Walnut Street fully reopened Wednesday.

The roadwork began March 18 to update accessibility on both sides of the riverwalk, to boost aesthetics in the area and to lift the street just slightly to decrease speeds of vehicles, city officials said.

Doing so closed a one-block portion of North Walnut Street to vehicular traffic.

Though some residents and area business owners expressed frustration during the upgrades, they now have a road surface that displays a dividing line between Kent and Sussex counties.

While the road was closed to traffic during the annual Bug & Bud Festival on April 27, construction was at a point at which attendees could walk across the bridge during the festivities.
