Hehman: Book restrictions would allow others to impose beliefs, politics upon others

Posted

The following letter is in response to Michele Schlehofer’s opinion (Wicomico Schools should not restrict access to books) which BaytoBayNews.com posted on Feb. 21.

This is a spot on, authoritative review of the current movement to ban books in school and public libraries and why it is a terrible idea.

Simply put, parents should guide, nurture and as necessary restrict their children’s access and exposure to books and other information sources.

And then mind their own business and let other parents do the same for their children.

This movement is not about protection it is about control and imposition of your beliefs, politics and biases upon others, in violation of the First Amendment to the Constitution.

We must not stand for this.
