SALISBURY — Public servant, scholar and Christian leader Dr. Gerald “Jerry” Regier will address the 12th annual Salisbury Area National Day of Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center in Salisbury, MD.

Dr. Regier has a long and distinguished career in Christian ministry and public service. He served with Campus Crusade for Christ (now CRU) for 13 years, at the University of Texas and at the Christian Embassy in Washington, D.C. He has served in both state and federal government positions and was named Administrator of the Year by the American Society of Public Administration. In education, Dr. Regier is a Senior Fellow at the Geneva (Switzerland) Institute for Leadership and Public Policy. He is a member of the faculty at the Liberty University’s Helms School of Government and at the Walden University School of Public Policy.

The Salisbury breakfast, held on the same day as the annual National Day of Prayer, is organized by a committee of area community leaders and chaired by Bonnie Luna.

Luna said the group revived the tradition of a regional prayer breakfast on the Lower Shore. “It’s designed to be ecumenical and messaged centered,” she said. “We are very fortunate to have a speaker of the caliber of Dr. Jerry Regier. This is a great opportunity to bring the Body of Christ together for a very timely message.”

The breakfast program begins at 7 a.m. Prior to that time, from 6:15 to 6:55 a.m., attendees are invited to join local pastors in corporate prayer for the city, region and country. A special area will be set aside for this preliminary event.

The theme of the 73rd annual National Day of Prayer is “Lift Up the Word – Light Up the World,” based on the text of 2 Samuel 22:29-31. The passage refers to how the Lord is a lamp that turns darkness into light, and emphasizes that those who rely on Him are overcomers. Around the nation, millions of people will gather to pray at thousands of National Day of Prayer events.
